I’m seeing a lot of “51st state” crap lately. It’s the coward’s way out. We in an independent West could enjoy a standard of living that would be the envy of the world. But no, the cowards among us would rather turn everything over to the US to benefit the USA not Western Canadians. Eager to exchange a master in Ottawa for a Master in Washington, they count on joining Trump’s America to avoid any work to create an independent country that would be an energy superpower. Perhaps they should just hop on a bus and move down south now.
51 Staters are pissed at the way Ottawa treats the West, particularly Alberta, but there doesn’t seem to be any forethought about the future, as Uncle Sam will be looked to to support the 51st state. Sort of the arrangement we have now with Ottawa. They don’t seem to understand that just due to Trump’s age, the chances of him holding the presidency past the next 3 years are slim. Plus, he is enraging much of America. What happens when the Democrats are back in power? Remember, it was the Democrats under Obama and doubled down by Biden that killed the Keystone XL.
Western Independence is rapidly becoming a reality; do we not owe it to ourselves to create a country where we are masters of our own fate? Do we not owe it to our descendants to pass down the best possible future? Are we not capable of making our own laws?
Are we willing to demean the intense human efforts to settle and build the West by running away to Uncle Sam?
It’s coming down to the crunch. Let’s not be playing into the hands of Carney and Trump by prostrating ourselves to the whims of the fickle US government. Are we eager to take on a part of the 32 trillion US national debt? Are we wanting to pay through the nose for US medical insurance and user co-pay? I have a friend in Arizona who just had heart surgery; his insurance wouldn’t pay the whole thing, and now he suddenly owes 65 thousand dollars!
Canadians are complaining about crime. Note that crime in the US makes ours look like a Benedictine monastery. Race is the constant issue in America, do we want to share that?
Due to protectionist policies, America is reshaping the world. But to what ends is that being done? A recent trade deal with the UK gives Trump unfettered access to the UK market with low, or no, tariffs. However US tariffs on the UK are still in effect. Is this the kind of deal the 51 staters want? The West would have terms imposed by Washington, but the 51st state would have the same status as Rhode Island.

We are now at a point in the independence project where it becomes imperative to be united, focused and communicating honestly, with clear goals and desired outcomes. The independence movement has always suffered from being fragmented, many times over paltry things. Our opponents and detractors are wringing their hands with glee and taking advantage of disunity. Hopefully, people will come to terms with the interference and keep eyes on the ball.
